FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – A freshman-laden Manhattanville College men's golf team dropped a close dual match to Farmingdale State College on Tuesday afternoon, falling by the score of 310-315 on Bethpage State Park's Red Course.
The Valiants' score is their fourth lowest total of the fall season and continues a consistent trend of shooting in that range, with six of the team's seven rounds so far in 2014-15 falling between 312 and 317. The team did so on Tuesday with a squad consisting completely of freshmen, as six Valiant newcomers made the trip to Long Island for the day.
Freshman
Joseph Mullarkey (Cancun, Mexico/International American School of Cancun) tied for individual medalist honors with Michael Imbriale of Farmingdale, carding a season-low five-over round of 75. He was joined in the top-five by classmate
Jason Siegel (Colorado Springs, Colo./Discovery Canyon), who shot a solid round of 79 in his collegiate debut.
Fellow freshman
Tyler Stagg (Purchase, N.Y./White Plains) finished in a three-way tie for sixth place after an 80, and classmate
Mike Brabazon (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) ended up one stroke back in a tie for ninth place with an 81.
Jack Christian (Brewster, Mass./Norwell) carded a round of 82 and
Chris Staffeldt (El Paso, Texas/Coronado) shot an 85 to round out the Valiant participants on Tuesday.
Manhattanville will take part in its final two-day invitational of the fall season this weekend, as the Valiants co-host the Manhattanville/NYU Fall Invitational at Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, N.J., beginning on Saturday at 1 p.m.
