DeMarco's Two Tallies Give Kennett His First Win in 2-1 Victory over Ramapo

Junior Christie DeMarco's second career two-goal game propelled the Valiants to victory on Friday.
Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – Junior Christie DeMarco (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) recorded her second career multi-goal game, including the game-winning score with 88 seconds remaining in regulation, as the Manhattanville College women's soccer team gave head coach Graham Kennett his first collegiate victory with a thrilling 2-1 win over Ramapo in non-conference action at GoValiants.com Field on Friday night.

DeMarco saved the Valiants from a potentially discouraging result with her game-winner, which came just over three minutes after Ramapo's Nicole Ninomiya knotted the score with her second of the year in the 86th minute. But sophomore Melissa Barcia (Somers, N.Y./Somers) forced a Roadrunner turnover in midfield and then sent a long looping ball over the defense to DeMarco, who went in one-on-one with keeper Taylor Marcialis and had plenty of time to slot the ball low to the corner for the dramatic score.

For Barcia, the assist was the sophomore's first collegiate point, while for DeMarco, it was her first multi-goal game since scoring both goals of a 2-1 Valiant win over Delaware Valley in the 2013 season finale.

Manhattanville (1-2-0)  got on the board first in the 32nd minute with DeMarco's first of the night. Junior Dani Sullivan (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) punched at a ball at the top of the box and it deflected off a Ramapo defender to DeMarco behind the Roadrunner back line, and the junior put it home for her first of the season.

The game got chippy after that, with two yellow cards awarded as well as a straight red to Ramapo's Campbell Duffy, which forced her team to play a player down for the duration of the contest.

After holding a 5-3 edge in shots over the first 45 minutes, Ramapo (0-2-1) managed to dictate some of the play in the second half despite the man-disadvantage, posting an 8-4 shot edge the rest of the way. And although the team did finally break through late, the Valiants had a quick response in them to come away with the victory.

In goal, sophomore Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) made six saves to pick up her first victory of the season, while Marcialis made three saves and allowed both goals for the visitors.

Manhattanville will look to make it two wins in a row on Tuesday, as the Valiants travel to Trinity (Conn.) for a non-conference matchup with the Bantams beginning at 4 p.m.
