Field Hockey Blanked By Vassar In Betty Richey Tournament Final

The Valiants could not produce any goals against Vassar.
Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- The Manhattanville field hockey team failed to produce any goals against Vassar on Saturday afternoon, falling by a final score of 2-0 in the Betty Richey Tournament Championship.

Manhattanville (1-4) tallied seven shots against host Vassar (3-0), but failed to put any on goal. The Brewers defense was able to hold off any Manhattanville offensive pursuit, keeping the Valiants scoreless throughout the match.

The first goal of the game did not come until the 32nd minute, as Lauren Wiebe connected on a backhand lift from a pass across the mouth, beating sophomore Meghan Hughes (Kintnersville, Pa./Palisades). The Brewers outshot Manhattanville 5-2 in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead into the half.

With Manhattanville down by one goal, the Valiants continued to apply pressure on the Brewers in hopes of an equalizer. Instead, Vassar was dominant on the defensive end, turning aside any Manhattanville opportunity.

The Brewers eventually found the back of the net for a second time when it was Hayley Beach collecting a pass from Wiebe, beating Hughes to make it 2-0 in the 52nd minute. Vassar's two-goal lead was enough in the end, defeating the Valiants by a final score of 2-0.

In net, Hughes collected three saves on nine total shots while Brewers goalkeeper Amreen Bhasin did not see a shot on goal despite the Valiants taking seven shots.

Manhattanville will stay on the road for its next game against Connecticut College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Live stats are available via GoValiants.com
