Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. — The Manhattanville College women's tennis program hosted its first home match since the 2011-12 season Thursday afternoon, Sept. 27, against William Paterson University at the Manhattanville Tennis Courts. The Valiants defeated the visiting Pioneers by a score of 6-3, which marks the first win for the program since April 19, 2012 — a 5-4 at Hunter College.
 
The match started out quickly for the Valiants (1-0), as freshman Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and senior Lizza Gonzalez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) teamed up at first doubles and quickly took down their foes from William Paterson (0-4) by a score of 8-0. Finishing up a little while later was second doubles, where junior Izzy Lovejoy (Madison, Conn./Forman School) and freshman Samantha Altman (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) paired up for the 8-5 victory. Manhattanville headed into singles play with 2-1 match lead.
 
Gonzalez was once again the first finish, this time at second singles. The Dominican Republic native bested her Pioneer opponent in straight scoreless sets, 6-0, 6-0. Just after that, Charley dispatched her counterpart at first singles, 6-2, 6-2.
 
The next victory — and match clincher — for the Valiants came at third singles, once again from Altman. The rookie bested her opposition from WPU in straight sets as well, 6-1, 6-2. The final win of the afternoon for Manhattanville came from another rookie, Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) at fifth singles. She came away with the hard fought win in two sets, 6-3, 7-6(8-6).
