Box Score LEICESTER, Mass. – The Manhattanville College field hockey program picked up another win in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) on Sunday, Oct. 13, making them 4-0 in the conference. The Valiants had a late offensive start in the game but secured a 3-1 win over the University of Maine Farmington in the second half.
The Crimson and White (11-3, 4-0) had a hot defensive first quarter, it started with sophomore
Zoe Fillebrown (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) saving the first shot of the day and the Valiants defense blocking another shot sent from the Beavers (2-10, 2-1).
Following a slow second quarter, Maine-Farmington took the lead in the third scoring off a rebound. The Valiants did not let the deficit effect their game and instead responded with extra drive. The Beavers took another shot but junior
Casey Gilchrist (Mahopac, N.Y./Carmel) made a defensive save to hold the score 1-0. A few minutes later junior
Lexi Crites (Middleboro, Mass./Kents Hill School) passed the ball to senior
Robin Boot (Bedum, Netherlands/H.N. Werkman College) in the circle and she sent a rocket into the goal tying the score at one.
In the fourth quarter both teams were not looking to go into overtime and trying to earn the win. Boot stole the ball in the midfield and dribbled it down the field, she then drove it into the circle hoping a Valiant would be able to put a touch on the ball. Junior
Arnise King (Wilmington, Del./Concord) was there to tip the ball over to senior
Ameerah Thomas (Norfolk, Va./Granby) who reverse swept her shot past the Beavers defense. One minute later Thomas increased the lead after Crites passed her the ball in the upper right area of the circle. Thomas received the pass and drove her shot high over goalie Katelyn Rouleau's head and into the net.
Up next for the Valiants is an out of conference game against Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Conn. at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
