Box Score WESTON, Mass. – The Manhattanville College field hockey program gained its second win of the week. The Valiants defeated Regis College 4-1 on Saturday, Sept. 21, having four different goal scorers.
Manhattanville (6-3) started off on top within the first three minutes. Senior
Robin Boot (Bedum, Netherlands/H.N. Werkman College) had control of the ball when she dished it off to junior
Lexi Crites (Middleboro, Mass./Kents Hill School). Crites took a shot on goal and gave the Valiants an early 1-0 lead. Seconds before the first quarter was going to end, sophomore
Raquel Brown (Claymont, Del./Brandywine) came up from defense to get in on the offensive action. Brown snuck her shot by Regis' (2-5) goalie Hope Winkin, tallying her second goal of the season.
The Valiants played strong defense in the second quarter as they gave up five penalty corners. Four opportunities were denied for the Pride thanks to junior goalie
Elaina Nacinovich's (Patterson, N.Y./Carmel) saves. The last corner chance for Regis resulted in a goal. The Valiants led 2-1 going into the third quarter.
One of Manhattanville's strong points this season has been penalty corner opportunities. The third goal for the Valiants happened after freshman
Ava Panzer (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) took the corner, received a pass back and secured the score. A little over a minute later, senior
Ameerah Thomas (Norfolk, Va./Granby) found the back of the net after she received a pass from freshman
Felicity Williams (Glen Falls, N.Y./Glen Falls).
The Valiants will return to play on Wednesday, Oct. 2, in Mahwah N.J., as they take on Ramapo College at 4:30 p.m.
