PURCHASE, N.Y. – Ahead of the start of the 2022 spring season, the Manhattanville College Athletics Department and Director of Athletics and Recreation
Julene Caulfield have announced the addition of junior varsity baseball to the department's athletic offerings. The Valiants will begin competing at the junior varsity level this upcoming spring.
"We are extremely excited to begin offering junior varsity baseball as an athletic option here at Manhattanville College," said Caulfield. "With more and more prospective students each year expressing interest to come play baseball at Manhattanville, a junior varsity program was the natural progression in our athletic offerings. We are looking forward to seeing our newest Valiant squad taking the field starting in March."
The addition of the team marks the first junior varsity team sponsored by the athletics department. Manhattanville Athletics aims to add more athletic offerings in the coming seasons to continue elevating Manhattanville College as a premier destination for athletics. This past fall, Manhattanville welcomed women's rugby as its newest varsity athletic offering for the team's inaugural season.
"The formation of the junior varsity program will allow us to develop some of the younger players and give kids more of an opportunity," said
Jeff Caulfield, head coach of the Manhattanville Baseball team. "I would like to thank Julene, Dr. Cindy Porter, and President Michael Geisler for their help in getting the program started. Their efforts have been instrumental in getting everything approved and off the ground."
V.J. Collins will oversee the junior varsity team as head coach whilst continuing his duties as pitching coach for the varsity team.
For their inaugural season, the Valiants have ten games on the schedule for 2022. The first-ever junior varsity baseball games will take place as part of The Ripken Experience at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina during the baseball team's spring break trip. The Valiants will play a pair of double headers while in South Carolina on March 4 and March 7. Opponents for both of those dates are to be announced.
The junior varsity squad will take the field at home for the first time when Manhattanville hosts Rockland Community College on Tuesday, March 15, at 3:30 p.m. The Valiants will then play on March 23 at Monroe Community College at 3:30 p.m.
Manhattanville returns home to host Monroe a week later on March 30, with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m. On April 5, Manhattanville travels to Rockland Community College for a 3:30 p.m. contest. The JV season concludes with a home-and-home series with Westchester Community College. The Valiants will play in Valhalla on April 12 before concluding the year at home against the Vikings on April 27.
