BOSTON, Mass. – Seeing action for the first time this year, the Manhattanville College cross country teams ran in the Suffolk Short Course Classic at Boston's Franklin Park on Friday morning. In all, six Valiants took to the course for the season opener.
The Valiants had four runners in the men's 5K, with the team's top finish coming from
Daniel Baldessarre (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury). The rookie placed 122
nd in the field of 167, clocking in at 19:46.4 with a mile pace of 6:21.8.
Jaivan Burgos (Bronx, N.Y./NYC iSchool) and
Jimmy Ascencio (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian) were the next two Valiants to finish, placing 143
rd and 144
th, respectively. The freshman Burgos clocked in at 22:24.6 while Ascencio posted a time of 22:33.8 in the first race of his senior year. Rounding out the effort on the men's side was
Shai Graham (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Theatre High School), whose time of 24:44.8 placed 160
th.
On the women's front,
Angelyne Silverio (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) led the way, placing 99
th out of 125 runners with a time of 15:38.4 in the 3.1K event, an average mile of 8:07.1.
Jay Bradna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Colegio El Shaddai) made her Manhattanville debut as well in the event, finishing in 18:40.6 to claim 121
st.
