Baseball Secures Skyline Sweep of Old Westbury

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University baseball team plated 21 runs and tossed a pair of seven inning complete games to sweep Skyline foe, Old Westbury on Sunday afternoon. With the two wins, the Valiants improve to 17-18 overall and 9-9 in Skyline Conference play with only one conference doubleheader left in the regular season. 

 

Game One Recap: Manhattanville 7, Old Westbury 0 

 

The Valiants scored seven unanswered runs to take the opener, behind a strong pitching performance from Ryan McCann (Medford, N.Y./Longwood). He threw a 7.0 inning complete game, his eighth start of the season. The sophomore only gave up five hits while striking out a season-high eight batters to earn his fourth win.

 

CJ Archul (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) led the team offensively with one run on two hits and 2 RBI as Marco Clara (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) recorded one run on two hits. 

 

The Valiants got themselves on the board first in the second inning with a double down the left field line from Clara followed by a ground out from Joe McDonald to advance the runner. Gregory Tashik (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park Jr./Sr.) then hit a sacrifice fly to bring Clara home to take a 1-0 lead early. 

 

In the fourth inning, Manhattanville would capitalize on the lead with five runs on three hits and two errors. Jake Parisi (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) began the rally reaching on an error as McDonald singled to the shortstop. The pair would steal advancing to second and third as Chris Goohs (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown H.S. East) reached on an error which scored Parisi. A steal and a walk then resulted in loaded bases for the Valiants with Archul hitting a 2 RBI single through the left side. Michael Musantry (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) concluded the inning with a 2 RBI double to left center as Manhattanville took a 6-0 lead. 

 

Parisi opened the fifth inning launching a one run home run to pull ahead, 7-0. The Valiants would be held scoreless through the final two innings. 

 

Game Two Recap: Manhattanville 14, Old Westbury 1 (Seven Innings)

 

It was another early lead for the Valiants in Saturday's finale against the Panthers as they dominated through almost every inning of play.

 

The contest began with Anthony Pressimone (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) reaching on an error as Parisi walked. The pair advanced on a wild pitch followed by an RBI single to center field from Clara. Old Westbury would score their first run of the day in the bottom of the inning with a single and an RBI double to even it out.

 

Later in the third inning, three runs on two hits gave Manhattanville a three-run lead. Pressimone walked as Parisi hit a single to left center advancing the runner to scoring position. Clara was then walked loading the bases before McDonald singled through the left side to bring two runs home. Goohs grounded out but still tallied an RBI as the Valiants went up, 4-1.

 

Four more runs scored for Manhattanville in the fourth inning. Archul singled through the left side and then advanced on a balk. Musantry walked as Pressimone recorded a bunt single with runners advancing. Parisi then reached on an error as a run made its way home. Clara followed up with a sac fly scoring another run. Gregory Tashik (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park Jr./Sr.) later reached on an error with another Valiant run coming home. The Old Westbury pitcher would balk again bringing Manhattanville's eighth run in. 

 

In the fifth, the Valiants would continue their offensive display with a pair of runs. Archul started it off with a double to left field followed by a walk for Musantry. Pressimone then singled up the middle bringing both runners home for a 10-1 lead. 

 

A trio of walks got Manhattanville off to a hot start in the seventh inning, scoring a pair of runs. Tashik and Goohs both singled through the left side for another two runs taking a late 14-1 lead. 

 

Offensively, Pressimone led the Valiants with three runs on two hits and two RBI, as Goohs tallied two hits with three RBI. 

 

Ray White (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland) got the start on the mound, pitching a 7.0 inning complete game. He gave up only one run on five hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts. 

 

The Valiants will be back on their home diamond on Tuesday afternoon as they take on John Jay for a single game at 3:30 p.m.
