Men’s Tennis Opens 2025 Campaign on the Road

SPARKILL, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University men's tennis team opened their 2025 season on the road facing off against St. Thomas Aquinas. The Valiants suffered a brutal defeat against the division II Spartans. Manhattanville was struck down with a 4-0 loss to start off the season.  

With four members on the team, the Valiants were only able to compete in two doubles matches. Lev Uitterhoeve (Maastricht, The Netherlands/Porta Mosana College) and Mario Alcala (Madrid, Spain/Hoosac School) took to the first flight facing off against Nagamistsu Kuroda and Alberto Espinosa Navarro. The Spartans took the match in straight sets defeating the Valiants 6-0. Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) and John Curtain played on the second court this evening against Seth Newman and Miguel Angel Real Jimenez. While Guzman and Curtin were able to secure two sets off the match, STAC remained victorious in doubles securing the first point of the contest.  

Manhattanville was already set at a disadvantage heading into singles play. Guzman took the first slate competing against Kuroda. Kuroda demonstrated a dominating performance defeating Guzman 6-0, 6-0. Uitterhoeve took to the second court going up against Nathan Yacar. Yacar defeated Uitterhoeve in a demanding victory 6-1, 6-1. With the score standing at 3-0, the Spartans needed one final point to win the match. Alcala set up shop on the third court competing against Kylan Feruglio. Alcala took one set before remaining defeated 6-1, 6-0. As this match was out of conference, the remaining match continued. Curtin took the final slot for the Valiants on the No. 4 court facing off against Angel Real Jimenez. Curtain was no match as his opponent defeated him 6-0, 6-0.
