Baseball Splits a Pair, Fiorito Drives In Four against Rochester

, FLA.D3Baseball.com junior All-American Dan Fiorito (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) led the Valiants with four runs batted in, as the Manhattanville baseball team split a pair of games on the second day of spring training on Sunday morning. The Valiants took game one defeating Rochester College, 16-14, in seven innings and then fell to Alice Lloyd, 4-0 in the second game.  

Five other Valiants contributed with runs and hits in the first contest of the day. Junior Chris Nardozzi (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Sophomore John Bucci (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) and freshman Ryan Blinderman (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) each had a pair of RBIs and three hits combined.

Against the Eagles, the Valiants scored 11 runs in the first three innings, before surrendering seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Alice Lloyd then added five more runs in the sixth inning and threatened to tie, but the game was called after the seventh inning due to time constraint.

Four Valiants took the rubber in the opening game of the day as junior Pat Yannucci (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Sewanhaka) allowed all seven runs in the fourth inning before sophomore Bashir Masani (Westbury, N.Y./W.T. Clarke) took over and was credited with the win. Senior Joe Donnelly (Patterson, N.Y./Carmel) got the final out in the seventh inning and was credited with the save.

In the second game of the day, the Valiants failed to score against Alice Lloyd and fell 4-0.  Junior Donny Pitasi (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) went 3.1 innings on the mound and allowed three earned runs for his first loss of the season. In relief, sophomore Edwin Aponte (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) finished the contest and threw the remaining 4.2 innings and allowed just one hit.

Manhattanville (3-1) will take on Hilbert College in a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday morning.
