PURCHASE, N.Y. – Four Valiants recorded a pair of runs batted in, the Manhattanville baseball team easily defeated Delaware Valley, 11-5, in the first game of a three-game Freedom Conference set on Saturday afternoon at Manhattanville Field.
Due to bad weather conditions in the Northeast area during the original series was supposed to take place March 25-26, but the final two games at Delaware Valley will take place on April 10.
Senior Chad Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) led the Valiants with three hits on the afternoon and drove home a pair.
Graduate Student Joe Gallace (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) returned to the lineup after missing the first 12 games due to an injury and went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Freshmen Hans Arias (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) and Ryan Blinderman (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) combined for four RBIs in the contest, with Blinderman's coming in a pinch hitters role.
Freshman Alex Basso (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) picked up his second victory of the season allowing two runs in seven inning of work.
The Valiants took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Arias scored junior Chris Nardozzi (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham), who doubled to begin the inning. Wallace gave the host a two-run edge with a single later in the inning to score classmate Alex Braverman (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown).
The hosts took a half-dozen lead in the fourth inning with four more runs on five hits. Arias singled to the outfield to score Gallace from second. The next batter Wallace doubled into the gaps to score Arias. Manhattanville continued the inning with a single by sophomore John Bucci (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester). Wallace and Freshman Matt Korman (Trumbull, Conn./Christian Heritage) scored. Korman scored from second base after an error by the third baseman allowed him to score.
M'ville took a seven-run lead in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Gallace. Delaware Valley scored a pair in the sixth inning of a two-run single by Jake Barben.
Manhattanville scored four more times in the seventh inning, beginning with an RBI single by Gallace. Braverman scored the second run of the inning on an error and then Blinderman singled to the outfield to score Arias and Gallace.
The Aggies scored three times in the ninth inning, but Graduate Student Alex Mason (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck) finished the game in a non-save situation.
Manhattanville (9-4, 2-2 Freedom) will take on Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
