PURCHASE, N.Y.– Senior Chad Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) continues to impress on the mound in a complete game victory over FDU-Florham 6-2 in the finale of the three-game set of a must-win Freedom Conference series on a rainy and windy Saturday afternoon at Manhattanville Field.
Wallace (1-0) allowed two runs on two hits and struck out four as the Valiant defense stranded six Devils on the base path en route to the victory. Leading the Valiants in the victory was junior Chris Nardozzi (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) with two hits and two runs batted in and senior Alex Braverman (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) with two hits and a run batted in. Braverman led the team on the day with three hits.
The Valiants scored twice in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Nardozzi and a sac bunt by Graduate student Joe Gallace (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison). Leading 2-0, Nardozzi singled in a run in the third inning with two outs. The hosts added three more insurance runs in the fourth inning on a double steal by Wallace and freshman Hans Arias (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) from third. Wallace eventually reached home after an error. Braverman gave his squad a 6-0 lead with an RBI single to third base to score Bucci who reached on the error that scored Wallace.
FDU scored runs in the sixth and seventh inning, but Wallace held ground in the late innings.
The Valiants dropped the first game of the afternoon, 3-1, as freshman Alex Basso (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) allowed three runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings. Basso (3-2) struck out five batters and allowed single runs in the second, fourth and sixth inning. The only Valiant run came in the fifth inning with runners on second and third as Bucci sent a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Wallace to score.
