RAMAPO, N.J. – After taking an important Freedom Conference split yesterday, the Manhattanville baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference seven-inning contests against Ramapo College, 5-1 and 8-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Ramapo Baseball Field.
Sophomore Nicholas Freddo and Matt Petrunti (East Granby, Conn./Loomis-Chaffee) were the only Valiant to get a run across the plate, as Freddo in the ninth spot drove home a run in the fifth inning of the first game and Petrunti sent a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning of the second game.
The Valiants used a pair of freshmen to start the games. David Jones (Lanesboro, Mass./Mt. Greylock) allowed five runs (four earned) in 4.2 innings of the opening contest, while Matt Mullin (New York, N.Y./St. John's Prep) was roughed up early in the second game. Both starters were dealt the loss.
Ramapo starter Frank Baldini went the distance and allowed just three hits and struck out nine batters in the opening game, while three pitchers were used for the Road Runners in the second game. Mark Delannoy pitched five innings in the second game to record the win.
Manhattanville (14-14, 6-9 Freedom) will head back to New Jersey on Tuesday to take on the College of New Jersey at 3:30 p.m.
