PURCHASE, N.Y. – Timely pitching and active bats gave King's (Pa.) College a pair of Freedom Conference victories over the Manhattanville baseball team, 4-1 and 12-2, on a pleasant Thursday afternoon at Manhattanville Field.
Junior Chris Nardozzi (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) led the Valiants offensively in both games, going 4-for-6 with a home run. The home run was the only run batted in for the hosts in the first game. In the second game, senior Alex Braverman (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and sophomores John Bucci (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) and Sean Ferguson (Astoria, N.Y./Xavier) each had a pair of hits, but the Valiants left 10 runners stranded in the loss.
The Monarchs were led by Anthony Re with four RBIs and a pair of RBIs by Joey Troxell, Rich Acierno, Brenton Eades and Tim Marchetti. On the mound, Joe Dorbad pitched a complete game in the opening contest, allowing one run on five hits while striking out five. Eades came on in relief in the second game and picked up the victory in 3.1 innings.
Nine Valiants took the mound in the afternoon, as senior Chad Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and freshman Alex Basso (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) were dealt the losses.
Manhattanville (14-16, 6-10 Freedom) will take on King's (13-15-1, 8-7-1 Freedom) in the final game of the three-game set on Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
