FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville baseball team split a pair of non-conference games dropping the first game 10-1 and then taking the finale 7-2 against SUNY Farmingdale State on a warm spring Tuesday afternoon at the Farmingdale State Baseball Stadium.
The Valiants scored the only run of the first game in the opening inning, as junior Dan Fiorito (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) singled through the right side and scored sophomore John Bucci (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) who walked to lead off the inning. Junior Pat Yannucci (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Sewanhaka) was roughed up in 4.1 innings allowing nine runs on 12 hits. His replacement sophomore Bashir Masani (Westbury, N.Y./W.T. Clarke) allowed one run on one hit in 1.2 innings of relief.
The Rams were led offensively in the first game by Terrence Bohonan with two hits and two runs batted in. Brandon Cruz went 3-for-4 with an RBI, as the hosts added six runs in the fifth inning to take the 10-1 victory.
The Valiants took the finale 7-2 as junior Chris Nardozzi (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) and sophomore Sean Ferguson (Astoria, N.Y./Xavier) both went 2-for-3 with three RBIs combined.
Junior A.J. Marini (Fair Lawn, N.J./Paramus Catholic) got the victory in 4.1 innings allowing two hits on two runs. Freshman David Jones (Lanesboro, Mass./Mt. Greylock) and senior Joe Donnelly (Patterson, N.Y./Carmel) pitched a combined 2.2 innings of shutout relief.
Nardozzi drove home the first run of the game shooting an RBI single into the outfield, scoring Bucci. The visitors added three more runs in the fourth, on three RBI singles by senior Chad Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown), freshman Ryan Blinderman (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) and Bucci. In the fifth inning, Nardozzi added his second RBI of the game with a double to score senior Alex Braverman (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown). Leading 6-2, the visitors added another insurance run in the seventh inning as Ferguson singled through the left side and scored Graduate student Joe Gallace (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison).
Manhattanville (14-19, 6-12 Freedom) will take on Wilkes University in the final three-game set this weekend, beginning with a single nine-inning contest at Wilkes on Friday at 4 p.m. and then a doubleheader finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
