Valiants Drop Conference Game Against Wilkes

, Pa. Graduate student Joe Gallace (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) and junior Dan Fiorito (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) each belted solo home runs, but the Manhattanville baseball team dropped a 9-2 Freedom Conference game to Wilkes University on Friday afternoon at Artillery Field.

Sophomores John Bucci (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) and Nick Freddo (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) led the Valiants with a pair of hits, but the only two runs came off the bats of Gallace and Fiorito. Freshman Alex Basso (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) was roughed up in six innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) with three strikeouts to suffer the loss. 

The Colonels led 3-0 before Gallace homered to left field. The Valiants added their second run in the seventh inning as Fiorito sent another shot over the left-field fence.

Leading Wilkes at the plate was Agnus Neary, who hit for the cycle and added two runs batted in, completing the cycle with a double in the eighth inning.  Rich Cosgrove helped his squad in the bottom of the lineup with two hits and two RBIs.  Ryan Fetterman lasted seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits to earn the win.

Manhattanville (15-19, 6-13 Freedom) will conclude the three-game series with Wilkes (17-14, 10-9 Freedom) and its Freedom Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. scheduled doubleheader at Manhattanville Field.
