PURCHASE, N.Y. – The national recognition kept coming for Manhattanville senior
Dan Fiorito (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) on Tuesday, as the star shortstop was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Division III All-America third team, as voted on by college coaches across the country and announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Tuesday afternoon.
Already the first and only All-American in Valiant baseball history after earning honorable mention recognition from D3Baseball.com in 2010, Fiorito becomes the first male student-athlete ever at Manhattanville and fifth student-athlete overall to earn multiple All-America honors at the school, joining women's hockey stars Ashley Trimble '06 and Cherie Stewart '05, women's lacrosse phenom Katie Frattarola '01, and women's basketball legend Theresa Carey '82.
Fiorito had previously earned NCBWA Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year accolades, ABCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region first-team honors and second-team All-Region honors from D3Baseball.com earlier this month after a stellar senior season for Manhattanville in which he hit .411 with 12 home runs, 36 runs batted in, 51 runs scored and 21 stolen bases. The shortstop finished in the top-five in the Freedom Conference in most offensive categories, including first in home runs, runs scored and slugging percentage (.760); second in stolen bases, total bases (111) and on-base percentage (.488); and fifth in batting average. He also ranks highly on a national level as well, sitting sixth in Division III in homers, seventh in homers per game, eighth in runs per game and 11th in slugging percentage.
Fiorito had his breakout week in the beginning of April, when he was named the NCBWA/D3Baseball.com National Player of the Week after hitting .611 with five homers, eight RBI and 12 runs scored during a four-game stretch. He then hit .357 in the Freedom Conference Tournament to conclude his career, including a program record-tying three-homer game in a comeback victory over top-seeded and national #10 Misericordia on May 4.
Ranked as the #3 draft prospect in Division III by
Baseball America at the start of the year, Fiorito was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Year and an All-Freedom first-team selection in addition to his All-Region accolades, marking his third straight spot on the All-Conference first team. Manhattanville's Co-Male Athlete of the Year in 2012, Fiorito set new single-season records at the school with 12 homers and 111 total bases, while also ranking sixth on the single-season lists in runs scored and hits and seventh in slugging percentage.
After only three seasons for the Valiants, Fiorito has his name all over the Manhattanville career record books. He sits third all-time at the school in home runs (21) and fourth in slugging percentage (.648), while also placing sixth in runs scored (116) and total bases (258), seventh in batting average (.397) and runs batted in (108), and 10th in hits (158) and on-base percentage (.474).
