Box Score DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Senior Alex Basso (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) struck out 11 batters in seven innings while freshman Joe Anselmi (North Rockland, N.Y./North Rockland) tallied three hits, three runs and an RBI on Thursday afternoon, as the Valiants took down Delaware Valley in Freedom Conference play by an 11-3 final.

Manhattanville (14-11, 8-7 Freedom) has won seven of its last eight games with six of which coming from Freedom Conference opponents. Delaware Valley (11-13, 5-11 Freedom) currently sits on the outside looking in at the Freedom Conference playoff picture while the Valiants reside in the fourth and final spot.

Basso (4-1) was lights out yet again on the mound for the Valiants, tossing seven strong innings, striking out 11 batters while giving up two earned runs on six total hits.

At the plate, Anselmi led the way for Manhattanville, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI. Freshman John Delahanty (Mahopac/N.Y.) collected four RBIs in the Valiants win despite a 1-for-5 effort in the batter's box.

The Valiants jumped out early on Delaware Valley in the second inning as junior Bobby Guerra (Bronx, N.Y./Arlington) stroked a double to left field, bringing in Anselmi for the game's first run. With Guerra already on, junior Nick Euvino (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) and senior Eli Tsouristakis (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) would join him on the base paths, loading up the bases. Delahanty stepped up next, lacing a single up the middle, scoring two more runs for Manhattanville, making it 3-0.  Junior Kevin Brady (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) eventually brought in one more run in the second on a sacrifice fly as the Valiants went up 4-0.

Manhattanville went right back to work in the next inning as Anselmi knocked in classmate Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) on a single up the middle. Anselmi would eventually come around to score on an Aggies error before Delahanty grounded out to shortstop to score another Valiants run. Manhattanville took a commanding 7-0 lead into the bottom half of the third before the Aggies were able to produce.

As Delaware Valley trailed by seven runs, the Aggies chipped away at the Valiants lead in the third. Two runs came across the plate for the Aggies on a single from Kyle Wenger, but only one run was earned as Lynch made an error at third base. With the third inning in the books, the Valiants led by five, 7-2.

More runs would not come until the sixth inning as Guerra reached base on another Aggies error, scoring Nunez. In the game, Delaware Valley committed five total errors compared to one from Manhattanville. As Guerra stole second base, Anselmi advanced home, pulling the Valiants lead back to seven, 9-2. The Aggies scored their last run in the sixth before Manhattanville earned two more runs in the final inning, both coming on groundouts from Tsouristakis and Delahanty.

Sophomore Julian Ponce (Port Chester, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) entered the game in the eight in relief of Basso, throwing two strong innings, allowing only one hit while striking out three. The Valiants remain as one of the hottest teams in the Freedom Conference after beating the Aggies 11-3.
