Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y.- The Manhattanville baseball team struggled to gather rhythm offensively against St. John Fisher in the semifinal round of the ECAC Metro/Upstate Tournament on Friday afternoon, falling by a final score of 8-3 on a rainy day at Manhattanville Field.
Â
Senior
Alex Basso (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) took to the hill looking to take over the all-time wins record at Manhattanville (24-16), but instead, the right-hander will have to settle for a tie with Mike Seminara '05 with 17 career wins. St. John Fisher (30-11) will play the winner of the other semifinal between FDU-Florham and SUNY Purchase to decide the champion of the ECAC Metro/Upstate Tournament.

The Valiants were unable to produce much at the plate, tallying only three runs on five total hits. For the Cardinals, Brad Rush went 5 for 5 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored.
Â
Up until the fifth inning, the game was a pitchers' duel between Basso (6-2) and Cardinals starter Marc Iseneker (7-1), as both sides were held scoreless. In the fifth, St. John Fisher put together a big inning off both Basso and sophomore
Sam Garito (New Rochelle, N.Y./Iona Prep), scoring all eight of its runs to take an 8-0 lead into the bottom half of the inning.
Â
Trailing by eight runs, Manhattanville needed to find an answer in the fifth. The Valiants manufactured three runs in the bottom half of the fifth, cutting their deficit to five runs after scoring on a wild pitch, passed ball and a groundout.
Â
After the fifth inning, both teams were held scoreless for the rest of the contest. Manhattanville posed a threat in the eighth inning by loading the bases with one out, but the Valiants could not produce any runs. As the eighth inning concluded, so did the ball game; the game was called after the eighth inning due to a lack of light.

Manhattanville finishes its season with an overall record of 24-16.
