3/3/2023 3:13:00 PM

PURCHASE, N.Y. – With the season officially getting underway tomorrow morning, the Manhattanville College baseball team has released their schedule for the 2023 season. The Valiants have 40 games on the docket for the season, with 16 scheduled to take place at home on the Manhattanville Baseball Field.

Manhattanville comes off a 19-19 season a year ago, making the Skyline Conference Championship where they were defeated by Mount Saint Vincent in the tournament's opening round. Entering the 19th season under the leadership of head coach Jeff Caulfield, the Valiants will look to return to the postseason in 2023 for another tourney run. Manhattanville was tabbed sixth in the Skyline Conference preseason poll.

Amongst the team's top returners will be three of the Valiants' four All-Conference selections from 2022. Tommy Iazzetta (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) had a stellar season as the team's top bullpen arm, becoming an All-Conference First Team and D3baseball.com All-Region First Team selection after pitching to a 1.27 ERA in 28.1 innings of work, earning a conference-best five saves. At the plate, All-Conference Second Team appointees Brian Bornkamp (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) and Joseph McDonald (Coram, N.Y./Longwood) look to follow up on their strong campaigns from a year ago where they batted .402 and .320, respectively.

The Valiants begin the season on Saturday at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach where they will play five games over the next four days. First pitch on the year is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday against Cabrini. From there, a Sunday doubleheader against Penn State Berks and games against Bridgewater State on Monday and Tuesday will conclude the trip down to South Carolina.

Manhattanville heads back north for their home opener on March 12, scheduled for a pair of seven inning games against the Coast Guard Academy. The following weekend the Valiants host Neumann for a pair on March 18 before concluding the opening homestand on March 21 against John Jay.

The Vals will spend the next weekend in New Jersey, playing a doubleheader at William Paterson on the 25th before a twinbill at Montclair state the next day.

After closing out March at home against Skidmore on the 29th, conference play begins on April 1 for a doubleheader against Saint Joseph's-Brooklyn. The Valiants remain at home for another doubleheader the following day against Farmingdale State. The following week opens with a pair of non-conference tilts as Manhattanville travels to New Jersey City University on April 4 before hosting Western Connecticut the following day.

On April 8, Manhattanville will host Saint Joseph's-Long Island for a Skyline doubleheader. A five game road trip follows, starting on the 11th at Ramapo. The Valiants will serve as the away team on their home field on April 15 for a pair against Mount Saint Vincent before actually returning to the road for a pair at Maritime on the 16th.

The Valiants host Eastern Connecticut State on the 19th for their penultimate home game. From there, road trips to Yeshiva on April 21, Mount Saint Mary on April 23 and Baruch on April 25 make up a five game slate away from campus. The contest against Baruch will be Manhattanville's non-conference finale.

Fans will get their final chance to see the team at home on April 29 when the Valiants host Purchase College for a doubleheader. The schedule concludes with doubleheaders at USMMA on April 30 and Old Westbury on May 6.

The Skyline Conference Championship is scheduled for May 10 through 14. The first round will take place on the 10th before the double-elimination finals will be held from the 12th through the 14th.
