11/5/2024 12:11:00 PM

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University cross country teams concluded the 2024 season over the weekend, competing in the Skyline Conference Cross Country Championship hosted at Bethpage State Park. The men's team had their best showing at a championship meet since 2019, claiming fourth amongst the 12 teams.

Ahead of the race, Daniel Baldessarre (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) was recognized with the Elite 19 Award for earning the highest cumulative GPA amongst all competitors. The junior has twice previously been named to the Skyline Academic Honor Roll in pursuit of his sport studies and education degree.

The men were led by Joey DeMilio (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains), who earned All-Conference Second Team recognition for the second year in a row. The sophomore improved on spot in his leading finish from last year's championship, placing 8th with a new personal best of 27:55.4. Zach Garrant (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill High School) also set a personal-best in his first season running cross country, claiming 15th with a 28:32.9 finish.

Darlig Delgado (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore Senior) added to his season of PBs with another top time, claiming 20th with his split of 29:43.0. Roberto Schneiger (New York, N.Y./Urban Academy Lab) finished right behind his cohort, placing 21st with a personal top time of 29:43.0. Baldessarre closed out the Valiants' efforts with his own new best time of 30:06.6 to place 27th.

While the women did not have enough competitors to place in the team standings, the Valiants did get strong individual performances from the three runners that took to the course. Jennifer Oliveros (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) led Manhattanville with a 28:30.9, a personal best, to claim 18th. Adelina Rodriguez (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) finished in 46th with a time of 33:17.4, while Gabrielle Billetz (Clarksburg, Mass./Hoosac Valley) took 62nd with a time of 36:15.3.

Merchant Marine won the team crowns on both the men's and women's sides, the Mariners' sixth-straight men's title and the fourth women's championship in the last six years.
