PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University Department of Athletics and Recreation celebrated the start of 2026 DIII Week on Monday with the fourth-annual induction ceremony for the New York Alpha Phi Chapter of the Chi Alpha Sigma national collegiate athlete honor society. Manhattanville inducted 31 new members to the chapter in honor of the student-athletes' academic successes.
The ceremony was once again led by
Dr. Amy Bass, Chair of Social Science and Communication, Faculty Advisor to the honor society, and Professor of Sports Studies. Dr. Bass has overseen the partnership between Manhattanville Athletics and Chi Alpha Sigma since the inaugural induction class in 2023.
"It is a privilege to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our scholar-athletes—leaders who exemplify the true spirit of excellence in both academics and athletics," said Dr. Bass. "This induction ceremony is more than just a recognition of success; it is a testament to the resilience, discipline, and unwavering commitment that define the very best of our campus community."
Chi Alpha Sigma was founded in 1996 by then DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis. His goal was to provide outstanding student-athletes with an opportunity to become connected within a fraternal association that aligns their educational and athletic successes for a lifetime.
Student-athletes are eligible for induction into Chi Alpha Sigma as attendees of four-year accredited colleges or universities that are members of the NCAA, NAIA, USCAA or NCCAA. Honorees must achieve at least junior academic standing by the fifth semester or seventh quarter, as determined by the certifying institution, and must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of a 3.5, on a 4.0 scale.
This year's 31 inductees sported a cumulative grade point average of a 3.779.
The 2026 induction ceremony took place in the East Library of Manhattanville's Reid Castle. The inductees were joined by Department of Athletics faculty and staff alongside family, friends, and previous inductees from the Class of 2025 still enrolled at the university.
