DiCola Takes 13th Place to Lead Women's Cross Country at SJC Invitational

SAYVILLE, N.Y.  – The Manhattanville College men's and women's cross country teams started the 2015 season on Tuesday evening at Saint Joseph's (L.I.) College's Friends and Alumni Invitational, held at Broadway Park.

The Manhattanville women also ran an abbreviated 3,000-meter course on Tuesday. The Valiants had three runners compete in the race and did not score.

Sophomore Katie DiCola (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) was the team's top finisher for the day, placing 13th out of 42 runners with a time of 11:12.60 that made her the ninth NCAA runner to cross the finish line. Freshman Veronika D'Aragona (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) took 21st in her collegiate debut, finishing the course in 12:02.10. Sophomore Lauren Limato (Mount Vernon, N.Y./The Ursuline School) also raced for Manhattanville on the evening, running the 4,000-meter course along with some other competitors and finishing in 20:50.20.

Led by a third-place finish by senior Austin McGlone, the Valiant men's team saw six runners cross the finish line whohelped place the team fifth overall with 100 points

McGlone picked up right where he left off last season, finishing first among NCAA participants and behind only one runner from Suffolk Community College and one Saint Joseph's alumnus. Running on a 6,000-meter course, the senior crossed the finish line in 19:57.50, nine seconds out of first place and 50 seconds ahead of the next collegiate runner, Tom Ruppel of Division II New York Institute of Technology.

Classmate Matt Goidell also had a good race for the Valiants, taking 15th place out of 48 competitors overall and ninth among Division II and III runners with a time of 22:11.60. Fellow senior Peter Rizzo cracked the top 30 with a 24:16.20 finish that placed him 27th overall.

Senior Malcolm Winter finished in 24:51.80 to place 32nd, while freshman J.T. Scapperotti took 41st his collegiate debut and senior Evan Winston placed 45th overall to round out the Valiant entries.

The Valiants will be back in action on Friday, when the team travels to New Jersey for the Ramapo Roadrunner Invitational.
