In just three seasons in the Crimson and White, Mike Prendergast finished his career as the second all-time leading scorer in program history with 1,626 career points – he now ranks fourth all-time. He is the only player in program history to average at least 20 points per game (ppg) throughout his career and leads all players with a 21.7 ppg average in over 75 games played.
While leading his squads to three straight ECAC Metro Tournament bids, Prendergast – a transfer from Division I Loyola University (Md.) after his freshman year – became the only two-time MBWA First Team All-Met selection (1984-85, 1985-86) in program history.
Under the direction of fellow Hall of Famer head coach Ralph Tedesco (HOF ‘17), Prendergast finished his career as the all-time leader in steals with 203, second with a .793 free-throw percentage and fourth in assists with 339. He also remains the program’s leader in career free throws made with 535.
As a junior, Prendergast became just the fifth player to reach 1,000 career points in program history. He still holds the second and third sports on the single-season scoring list with 601 points as a junior and 598 points as a senior. At the time of his graduation, he held the top three single-season steal totals and now ranks fourth, fifth and sixth, including a career-high 70 as a junior. He also holds two of the 10 highest single-game scoring totals with 43 points (tied for fourth) versus Merchant Marine (Feb. 11, 1987) and 36 (tied for 10th) vs. Gallaudet (Jan. 24, 1987).
