Manhattanville Athletics Hall of Fame

As head coach of the men's basketball team from 1974-79, Tim Cohane was the architect of the basketball program at Manhattanville and led the Valiants to some of the best seasons in program history. After posting his first winning season with a 17-9 record in 1976-77, Cohane lifted the team to greater heights in 1977-78, posting a 17-11 mark and earning the college's first trip to the NCAA Tournament in any sport with an at-large berth in the Eastern Regional. The team returned to the NCAA Tournament the following year with another 17-11 mark, giving the program two of its three all-time NCAA Tournament appearances.
In five seasons at Manhattanville, Cohane led the team to a 69-59 record, placing him fourth in program history in career victories and second in both career winning percentage (.539) and wins per season (13.8). He coached three players who went on to score 1,000 career points as a Valiant as well as 2014 Manhattanville Hall of Fame inductee Roger Dunphy '80.
Following his time at Manhattanville, Cohane moved to the Division I level where he served as the head coach of Dartmouth College for four years from 1979-83. He has also served as a coach at multiple successful stops, including the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Boston College and the University of Buffalo.
The Cohane family also had a major impact on the Manhattanville Athletic Department through his father, Tim Cohane, Sr., who recalled the 16th century quote "A coeur vaillant, rien d'impossible" ("To the valiant of heart, nothing is impossible) that produced the unique nickname that Manhattanville still holds today.
